2010/11 Course Details
Dates and location:
The Introductory, Advanced and Level 1 Balanced Scorecard Professional certification courses will be held in Melbourne in the week of August 16-21, 2010, and in Sydney in the week of February 14-18, 2011. Both courses will be delivered by our managing director Dr Michael Court. The Level 2 Balanced Scorecard Master Professional certification course will be held February 21-25, 2011 in Sydney and will be delivered by David Wilsey, a vice president of the USA Balanced Scorecard Institute. All courses will be held in central city locations, the November courses in the Clifton’s Training Centre, 440 Collins St, Melbourne, and the Sydney courses in Clifton’s Training centre at 200 George St, Sydney. Course 101 - Introduction to the Balanced Scorecard Course Fee $AU 3,180
Melbourne: Mon-Wed 15-17 November, 2010 Sydney: Mon- Wed 14-16 February, 2011
This is a foundation course. What is the BSC methodology? What is a BSC system? What are the steps in building one in an organisation? The course covers the processes of creating a BSC system in an organisation - linking organisational mission/vision and values statements into a BSC framework; development of strategic themes and perspectives; development of strategic objectives and strategy maps; measurements of performance; implementation of the organisation’s strategies. The course includes discussion of examples of BSC implementations and case studies.
Course 102 - Advanced Balanced Scorecard Course Fee $AU 2,120
Melbourne: Wed - Fri 17-19 November, 2010 Sydney: Wed - Fri 16-18 February, 2011
This course incorporates a much more detailed discussion about BSC system implementation in an organisation and how to deal with the common problems associated with developing and implementing balanced scorecard systems. In particular, this course extends the conceptual framework of balanced scorecard systems into the development of detailed performance measures and the strategic initiatives that are linked into an organisation’s business plans and budgets.
Course 201 - Professional Certification level 1 (BSP) Course Fee $AU 5,550
Melbourne: Mon - Fri 15-19 November, 2010 Sydney: Mon - Fri 14-18 February, 2011
This comprehensive course leads to level 1 professional certification (BSP) by the USA Balanced Scorecard Institute and the George Washington University College of Professional Studies. It is an intensive amalgamation of courses 101 and 102 above and is followed by a 90 minute multiple choice examination to achieve Level One certification. It is ideal for people who are or will be building, implementing, and managing balanced scorecard management systems. The course is limited to 20 participants.
Course 202 - Professional Certification level 2 (BSMP) Course Fee $AU 6,975
Sydney only: Mon - Fri 21-25 February, 2011
(Pre-requisite: Professional Certification level 1.) The Balanced Scorecard Master Professional (BSMP) certification, offered in association with the George Washington University College of Professional Studies, is a comprehensive program on leading a balanced scorecard planning and management system implementation. The program is ideal for participants charged with building, implementing, managing, and sustaining balanced scorecard planning and management systems. It was developed for members of internal balanced scorecard teams, for consultants who want to advise clients on how to build, deploy, and sustain scorecard systems, and for anyone who wants to incorporate lessons learned and best practices into the development of a strategic management system.
Each training course includes:
- Expert lectures, group discussion and case studies
- An overview of international best practices
- Small-group activities
Each course participant receives a bound set of the course materials and other support materials.

David Wilsey manages the Institutes internal marketing and business development functions and is one of the Institute’s most experienced delivers of balanced scorecard public and in-house workshops. His employment history prior to joining the Institute included tenures at SAS Institute, Holley Performance, Lunati Pistons, Nesbit Engineering and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
David’s high profile BSC clients have included Blue Man Group, Fort Bragg Army Garrison, Constellation Energy, Dalton Public Schools, Simmons Foods, the U.S. Department of Commerce, Options Clearing Corporation, City of Raleigh (NC), Arapahoe County (CO), Federal Home Loan Banks, Visicon Technologies Inc. and Spectrum Partners.
Michael Court
Managing Director,

Michael is Managing Director of Balanced Scorecard Australia. He is a Senior Associate of the US Balanced Scorecard Institute and a certified Balanced Scorecard Master Professional. He also teaches Strategic Management for the International Graduate School of Business and has lectured in MBA programs in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore for many years.
As a consultant, Michael has worked extensively with health organisations in reviewing strategic management structures and systems and developing new national and international programs. His principal consulting interests are in the strategic management of organisations and the development and implementation of balanced scorecard systems.
