CORE COURSES
101: Introduction to the Balanced Scorecard
3 days - A general overview course. What is the BSC methodology, what is a BSC system, what are the steps in building one in an organisation. This course covers the processes of creating a BSC system in a generic organisation - linking organisational mission/vision and values statements into a BSC framework; development of strategic themes and perspectives; development of meaningful strategic objectives for an organisation; development of theme based strategy maps. The course includes discussion of examples of BSC implementations and case studies. Course schedule
102: Advanced Balanced Scorecard
2.5 days - This course incorporates a much more detailed discussion about BSC system implementation in an organisation, and how to deal with the common problems associated with developing and implementing balanced scorecard systems. In particular, this course extends the conceptual framework of balanced scorecard systems into the development of detailed performance measures and strategic initiatives that are linked into an organisation’s business plans and budgets. 103: Facilitating a Balanced Scorecard Program:
3 day workshop – This course is designed for organisation BSC champions who do not wish to undertake the full-scale BSMP course (course 202 below). This course focuses on the facilitation and change management processes associated with developing and implementing balanced scorecard systems. Not currently scheduled for 2010.
THE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM:
These courses are for people who are or will be closely involved in the development and implementation of BSC systems, and especially those responsible for the implementation of a balanced scorecard system in their organisation.
Level One: Course 201 - Balanced Scorecard Professional Certification (BSP)
Level Two: Course 202 - Balanced Scorecard Master Professional certification (BSMP)
201: Developing and implementing a BSC system in an organisation: Certification Part 1
5 days - This 5 day course is an intensive amalgamation of courses 101 and 102 plus extensive use of case studies. Course schedule
The course is followed by a 90 minute multiple choice examination to achieve Level One certification.
202: BSMP Certification Part 2:
5 days - This course is focussed on facilitating the development of a BSC system in an organisation. It requires BSP certification as a pre-requisite (course 201 plus examination). It draws upon all of the Balanced Scorecard Institute’s experience in implementing BSC systems in a range of private, public and not-for-profit organisations. It deals with the common problems that are encountered in building BSC systems, the process of ‘cascading’ BSC systems through an organisation, change management, the facilitation techniques and methods that have been found to work, the acquisition of appropriate software, and how to keep systems under continual review and evaluation. The course is followed by a 90 minute multiple choice examination to achieve Master Professional certification.
OTHER SPECIALISED WORKSHOPS
These workshops are primarily designed for individuals in organisations that have already commenced their balanced scorecard journey and who wish to further develop their skills with regard to specific parts of the balanced scorecard methodology.
301: Reviewing and refocussing your balanced scorecard system:
A 2 day workshop - reviews the common problems that are encountered in developing BSC systems; provides a refresher about the BSC methodology and its key implementation techniques. Includes group discussion of any problems being encountered by organisations attending the workshop. Not currently scheduled in 2010
302: - Developing meaningful performance measures:
A 2 day workshop for organisations encountering difficulties in developing effective ‘metrics’ by which to assess their achievement of strategic objectives. Extensive case studies of successful metrics used by other organisations. Not currently scheduled in 2010.
303: Developing and Using Strategy Maps:
A 2 day workshop - how to build and refine strategy maps to get the most out of this BSC tool. Extensive use of case studies. Not currently scheduled in 2010.
304: Cascading your balanced scorecard:
A 2 day workshop - targeted at organisations that have already commenced their BSC journey. After senior management has developed the organisation’s BSC and associated strategic objectives and initiatives, how are these best communicated throughout the organisation and made an intrinsic part of everyone’s tasks.? Focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 balanced scorecard system development. Not currently scheduled in 2010.
